  • Canadian Citizen Marrying a Cuban Immigrant in USA

    Hello,

    I am a Canadian citizen.

I have a fiancé that is currently living in Miami. She just moved to USA from Cuba one month ago and is currently in the process to become a USA resident through the wet foot, dry foot policy.

I want to understand what we can do to get married. If we marry before she becomes a USA resident and I sponsor her to Canada, will she lose her rights to become an American? Can she live in Canada and eventually have dual citizenship? She has to wait one year before she can become a resident and I assume also one year before she can travel as well. Am I able to immigrate to the USA to live with her?

Ideally we want to have dual citizenship for us both for the future.

    Thank you for you assistance.

    Jamlis,

You can marry anytime, but don't start any immigration procedures until your gal's refugee requriements are met.

Thanks. We are married now but she still isn't a resident. Would it cause a problem to start the sponsorship papers to Canada right now before she is a resident?

Your gal's refugee status in the U.S. has nothing to do with immigrating her to Canada.
