  • Citizenship question, Please help

My mother is a citizen and when I was 17, she adopted me and filed for papers for me. It took a long time for me to get my green card but I got it when I was 25 yrs old.

I was wondering, since she was a citizen when she applied for me, shouldn't I also be a citizen by default ?

Any comments and info are welcome.

    Thank you in advance.

Whether or not you have derived U.S. citizenship depends on what year your adoption was finalized, and how old you were when the adoption was finalized.

    What year was the adoption?
