  • Need some advice for my wife. Restarting the immigration process after many years.

Here is the background on my wife of 5 years:

-Has lived in the States for over 30 years now
-Came here as a child when her parents came to the States through Canada. She was born in the UK (Scotland).
-Her mom and siblings started to undergo the immigration process but stopped and never completed, due to money back in the 80’s.
-This is what she currently has:
    -Long expired British Passport
    -Long expired Green Card
    -Valid US Social Security Card
    -Valid CA Drivers License

She is scared to death of ever being deported cause the US is all she knows and loves. Plus her career and of course me is here.

My question is, so are we looking at to at least getting her current, and then eventually move on to getting her naturalized or a US Citizenship.

It would be nice to go back and visit her birthplace sometime in our adult lives.

    Cali,

When was your wife's Green Card issued? Was it a 10-year card when issued?

      Thanks for the response.

No, she does not have a 10-year one. It was issued back in the 80's.

Then it might not have an expiration date, as until about that time the Green Cards didn't have expiration dates. Later in the 80 or early 90's, though, INS (or maybe USCIS by then) asked those with the non-expiring cards to turn them in for 10-year cards.

But if your wife's card has no expiration date and she has been in the U.S. all this time, her status is okay.
