  • N-600 process

    Hi,

I have had my Green Card for 4 1/2 years and plan to apply for citizenship soon after I reach the 5 year period. From the information I have found online and this forus I have a pretty good idea of the naturzliation process. I have a daughter who will be 14 when I apply and got her Green Card at the same time as me (Oct 2009). As I understand it, before the age of 18, she would only need a N-600 to get her certificate of citizenship. What is not very clear to me is whether I can apply for that at the same time as my N-400 or whether I will have to wait until after the oath to do so. This is very important to us because we are from Venezuela and getting passports has become a nightmare. We are planning a very important family trip in the summer of 2015 and if we can apply at the same time it would make a world of difference.

    Thanks!

Your daughter uses the N-400 for derivative citizenship claiming, for which she won't be eligible until after you have your Naturalization certificate.

I'm sorry but I should have said "N-600" for your daughter, rather than N-400.
