    DS 260 inquiry

    Hi Rayb,

I'm just a bit confuse regarding the surname portion of a MOTHER in the DS 260 form. That's why I attached the question together with DS 260 portion for MOTHER surname.

    Thanks for your usual support.

The predecessor form to the DS-260, "DS-230," specified "maiden" name of mother. The DS-260 does not specify either maiden or married name. I would defer to name on mother's passport.

Since there is no specific instruction for which name to use in this field, you won't be penalized or rejected either way.

Most other U.S. immigration-related forms do ask for "maiden" names of women, whether wives or mothers.

It's a problem with NVC processing of fairly recent occurrence. I had about 8 of these that went about two months after DS-261 was completed before the $230 fee bill showed up. Suddenly in last 4 days, I've gotten about 5 such bills.

Just relax, because you have plenty of company.

                Hi Ray B
Are the things still slow at nvc?
http://travel.state.gov/contenthttps...aqs.html--this NVC site shows that "if you are unable to pay online, you must submit a cashier’s check or money order to the NVC’s St. Louis address”. Does this mean i can pay fee even if its not invoiced?

                Thank you

If you have not been invoiced, your fee might be returned. That advice is for those who are unable to go online and pay out of a checking account or savings account, or just can't negotiate the online payment protocol.

NVC seems to be speeding up, but it's hard to consider a few recent cases as typical of the NVC. I have about 15 packages going through the NVC now, and the longest delay for all of them has been waiting for the $230 immigrant visa bill.

                    Thank you Ray B ,
It seems like i have no other option then to wait!!
Are the things also slow for all online processes? like the next step after paying iv fees would be online ds 260 form ,,are they gonna take such a long time in that step too?
What things which can be in my hand to avoid further delay in the process?
Thank you once again Ray B

Just wanted to confirm that things still seem slow. Two weeks waiting for the NVC to invoice the $230.
Ironically, it states in red "Pay Now", only for it to be grayed out at the next screen.

                        current status is "in process"
Now can i send iv package to nvc ,though the iv fees status is not " paid " yet and ds 260 is also not available .( document cover sheet is available ).
Do i need to send two copies of each paper ,one original and one zerox copy ?and if so do these zerox copies need to be notarized ?
Thank you every one for their valuable resposes !!!

If you have the document cover sheet, you can now send the civil documents.

In which country is the visa being processed? Normally you send only a certified copy of each civil document, 2 passport-style photos of applicant, appropriate police clearance, and copy of passport ID page. But the requirements vary by country.

The DS-260 will be available for completion in another couple of days.

Thank you Ray B for your quick reply.
My visa will be processed in india.
Principal applicant's all original documents are already with petitioner in usa, as we thought we would have to submit original documents to NVC.
so should i get all those documents back to india and get them certify or Petitioner can certify them in usa ?and who would be the appropriate authority to get them certify in usa?
Once again thank you Ray B ,you are always there to help!!!

                              BRP,

I can't find any specific information for how civil documents are submitted for immigrant visa processing in India. You may have the specific instructions already. For most Consulate posts, a single original or certified document package is submitted by mail to the NVC; for a few other countries, scanned docs are submitted to the NVC, then originals to the Consulate before or at the interview.

But your civil documents which originated in India must have been issued by a government office in India or certified in India. One cannot certifiy as a true copy of a government issued documents outside the country of origin. I often get the question from my clients whether they can "go to a notary" to certify government documents, and that is just not how one authenticates the legitimacy of such documents.
