Waiting for my neutralization but drivers license expires in a month

I applied for my N-400 and did the biometrics. No one advised me that it could take 3months to a year before i get my citizenship!
The problem I'm now having is that my permanent residence card expires on Aug 28 along with my drivers license!
I've been here since i was 3 yrs old, came from cuba and to be honest i would of just renewed my permanent card if i knew it was this dramatic.
My husband is in the Army and we do not live near friends or family. As a matter of fact i just moved to Fort Campbell KY.
Does anyone have advise on what i can do to extend my drivers license? I have never done anything illegal and I'm not about to start driving my children to school illegally. It just doesn't sound logical that I'm being told I'm screwed for how ever long this may take!!

If nothing changed in your DL, you can just renew it. You may have to show proof of new mailing address by two letters that came to you. I Live in IL so it is not a problem.
