  • What happens if I change my mind pursuing citizenship mid process?

I have an interview date scheduled. What happens if I don't show up to my interview?
I am guessing the case will be abandoned. But will the citizenship application actually be denied? And if so, would that have any implications renewing greencard or applying again for citizenship down the road?

Why don't you send a cancellation letter to USCIS?

If you don't show for the interview, your application will be abandoned.

I don't think I have time for sending a letter in advance. Interview is next week.
Could I send such a letter afterwards? What would I write in this letter?

"Application abandoned": so, this would have no implications on any future GC renewal or citizenship process?

Call the I-800-375-5283 help number and explain your need to cancel the appointment. Cancellation or abandonment should not affect future immigration-related processing.

Do I need to give a reason? And if so, how specific do I need to get?

Nobody at USCIS cares why you are cancelling your appointment, unless you ask for a reschedule date.

If you are not rescheduled, you just lose your $680 submittal fee.

Is there any difference in cancelling prior to the interview or prior to the oath?
With other words going through with the interview step and then cancel?

That makes no sense at all. If you don't want the Naturalization, don't go to the test and interview.

Perhaps if you tell us why you don't want U.S. citizenship, we can provide a better answer to your questions.
