  • Passed interview but stuck in limbo because of one document

    Hello all,
    Ok, long story:
My wife (currently a Chinese citizen) has been living with me (US citizen by birth) in the United States for four years. Before that, we lived together in China for four years. Last Spring we applied for citizenship (after the required 3 year wait). This summer my work changed and I had to go to Europe for a long term assignment. My permanent address is still in the US, I just need to travel to Europe for long stretches. Although it would be hard to be apart from my wife and four year old daughter, we felt it would be better if she wait in the United States until her citizenship processing was complete, and then join me in Europe.
My wife FINALLY had her interview and citizenship test on November 12 and passed both. The office said they were missing one document that they needed to order from another office (and no, they would not tell us what the document was). The document arrived after two weeks but the are not looking at it. My wife has made several appointments with the office to check on her progress, and each time they give us a different answer. At first they said it would only take a week or two to review the document, then 60 days, and now they are saying they do not know when they will have time to look at it.
I am feeling so frustrated! It has been over four months since I have seen my family in person. Next week I will be able to come home for about a month, but the must leave again.
She asked if the delay was because I was out of the country, but they said no.
My wife asked the office at her last appointment if contacting our senator might expedite the process, and they said if we did that she is no longer allowed to check in with the office on her status.
Have any of you been delayed due to a missing document? Do you know how long it may take? Is there anything we can do?
    Thanks all.
