  • Child birth outside the US

    Hello,
We are expecting our first baby in Apr '06. Just wondering what are the problems if the child is delivered outside the US. We prefer the baby to be born in the US, but parents and relatives back home insist that it be born in India.

Can someone help me understand the difficulties that might arise if we choose to give birth in India?

    Thnx,
    Piske

That really depends upon what your legal status is, both for mother and father of the child to be born.

We both are permanent residents here with Indian citizenship.

In that case, mother needs to bring the child with her first time she travels to US after baby is born and before baby is 2 years old.

In that case, just show the birth certificate and baby would be allowed to travel with mother. Baby's passport will be stamped at port of entry with green card stamp. Baby will get actual green card in few moths after that.

          I have similar question---

If mother is Us Citizen and father is Green Card holder, if my wife decides to deliver baby in India then Baby gets USCitizenship?
Do we need to apply in US?

          Thanks
