Hello All!
I am a New Zealand national and US Permanent Resident looking to file N-400 for Naturalization this year. However, I have a potential timing issue that is making it difficult for me to work out when to do so.
I acquired a greencard through marriage on May 15th, 2012. This makes me eligible for naturalization May 15th of 2015, and of course can file 90 days ahead, so February 15th. I would like to file as soon as possible, because I will be moving in July/August, and would love to get this finished before then if at all possible (and would like to avoid filing a change of address mid-process with USCIS, since I've heard horror stories about those not being processed properly and people failing to receive important documents).
However, one thing is causing me stress. In April I will be traveling to the Netherlands to visit my elderly grandmother for a week. For reasons not worth getting into, I don't have much flexibility with this and if I don't visit her then I may not have another chance for several years, so obviously I very much want to go.
My concern is that with filing in mid-February, either my biometrics or my interview might get scheduled for that week. Do you guys know if that is likely, and if it is, is it a big deal to get these rescheduled?
Any guidance would be heavily appreciated!
