Hello,
I received my Green Card in 2012 and have been continuously and physically present in the United States since then (3 years)
I am planning to backpack abroad for 1 year and want to make sure that I don't break the "continuous residence" requirement.
I plan to split my trip abroad to 5 1/2 months away in South America then come back home to the USA or go to Puerto Rico/Virgin Islands and stay for about 2 weeks before taking off to Europe/Asia for another 5 1/2 months.
If I split my trip in this way will it satisfy the "continuous residence" requirement? I also plan to apply for a reentry permit.
To add more detail, my mother is a US Citizen and both of my siblings are Green Card holders living in the USA. I am also in the process of purchasing a home in my state of residency.
Thank you for the help!
