  • N-400 filling electronically

    Hi,
I have the following questions regarding N-400:
    1) I am currently filling out N-400, i saw USCIS videos at youtube in which they say that they prefer filling out the form electronically, also a 2D barcode appears on each page of the form. I visited www.uscis.gov/n-400 and tried to fill the form, but when i save the pdf the form is blank. Also, i cant see any 2D barcode on the form. I would appreciate any help regarding this issue.

    2) If i am filling the form electronically the signature should be done after I printout the form or I can also do the signature electronically?

    3) Shall i write A-number with hyphen? 123-456-678 or inserting hyphens in A-number can result in an issue, if filling out the form by hand?

    4) Moreover, as far as i understand we dont need to fill out sections 15 onwards (i.e. leave them blank) until instructed by USCIS officer, so are those sections generally filled out during interview?

    Thank in advance

    1) Make sure you have Adob Reader installed and it is up to date http://get.adobe.com/reader as you will need it to be able to fill out the form

    2) If you are using Firefox, Chrome, or Safari then you may have some compatibility issues.

    a) In Firefox you will notice a bar that says " This PDF form contains fillable form fields that are not compatible ......................Open in a different viewer" Click open in a different viewer and select Adobe reader.

b)In Chrome you should notice an icon in the address bar of your browser that reads "PDF" next to the white Bookmarks star or what looks to be a broken plugin symbol....You need to click on either one and click "Open in adobe reader" or "Allow plugins"

    c) In Safari you actually have to save the PDF onto your computer then manually open it in Adobe reader.

So to put it simply it needs to be opened in Adobe reader

Yes you should sign AFTER you print the form out IF YOU ARE PREPARING THE FORM THEN SIGN PART 12 AND NOTHING MORE

The A# should not contain hyphens. On the form there are separate boxes for each number
