  • Speeding ticket n-445 oath ceremony next week (urgently need answers)

    Hello Everyone,

I recently was approved for my citizenship on the 16th of April and I have been scheduled for my naturalization/oath ceremony next week Thursday April the 30th.
On the back of the N-445 letter No 4 asks if you have received a citation since your interview.

I received a speeding ticket on the 1st of April and forgot to disclose to the immigration officer. My interview literally lasted all of 5 minutes and she did not go over my entire N400 application just asked specific questions about my taxes and military record.

I will be paying this ticket tomorrow even though the Court date is not until May. I have never been arrested and thus have no criminal record.

    1) My main cause of worry is I got this citation "before" my interview and on the N-445 it says "since your interview" have you received any citation? Should I answer Yes and take a copy of the receipt and the ticket to my oath ceremony?

    2) Will this affect my Naturalization?
    Really worried.

    Thanks in advance.

Yes, don't worry about it one bit. You are doing the right thing in paying for it before your ceremony.
If you were asked about a ticket at your interview and you answered deceptively, then that would be a problem, but you weren't asked, so nothing to worry about. Furthermore, it's under $500.

At the ceremony, when you are asked if anything has changed since your interview, just say no, as the questions in the back referres to stuffs happening AFTER the interview. Good luck!!

        Thanks Jot18,

Although I am still a little confused. Asked a relation and was told to answer yes .

          Thanks MaryH,

It's still a little confusing as I was told to answer yes and to just show them the citation and receipt : that the immigration officer probably won't look at the date of the citation anyway and probably just glance over the receipt instead. They said just to play it safe.
Do they do a quick background check at the oath ceremony to check for arrests & citations?
