    hi..!
i want to know the exact no. of days that a US immigrant has to stay in Us for the very first time.
is it mandatory to live for all six months and not less than 180 days in Us at the first entry. or u can return bak at any time ?

    regards..!

There is no "exact" number of days. The "six month" requirement only affects the "continuous residency" requirement to be eligible to apply for U.S. Naturalization. Once the immigrant has the Green Card or the I-551 stamp in passport, he can leave for up to a year, or up to two years if he applies for a Reentry Permit.

      hi..!
thanks for the reply. but still ambiguity in your ans prevails sir. i am still confused. as my bro has applied for my parents and they got their interview date scheduled on june 16. so i want to know that, after acquiring the Us visa , for how long they need to stay in Usa to get the proper citizenship? after how many days they can get back to home-country. or iz it necessary to live in Usa till they get their green card ??

      regards..!

        1. Citizenship is only available after the parents have had Green Cards for 4 years and 9 months, without absences of 6 months or more, or without being out of the country a total of 2-1/2 years or more.
        2. Soon as they set foot in the U.S., they will have a temporary legal residency annotation in their passports (I-551), which allows them to leave the U.S. for up to a year, or up to two years (the latter if they have a Reentry Permit).
        3. It takes at least 30 days, usually, before the actual Green Card reaches their U.S. address.

I couldn't be more specific than the above.
