No... It does not.
You cannot just walk into USCIS office, you need to schedule an Infopass appointment, if you are looking for some information from them.

Your info pass will NOT affect the processing of your application's timing. It's relevant to it, but more in a positive way.
Sometimes cases are 'struck' or on hold, until an info pass is made.
