  • Applying for Citizenship: Continuous residence

I got my GC in October 2010.

In 2013, my mom got sick and my wife was taking care of her. She couldn't get back to US within 6 months because she was pregnant and we had our baby abroad. By the time we got our son's passport it was almost 8 months of stay outside US for her (and 4.5 months for me).

After that again she had to make two trips of 4 months each. In last 57 months she stayed a total of 20 months abroad.

My question is: Can she still apply for citizenship or is it that she doesn't qualify because of staying outside US for more than 6 months (due to reasons mentioned above)? Any input would be helpful.

    Thanks

The only way you will get a sure answer is to submit form N-400 with ample proof of the reason for your wife exceeding the 6-month period during one visit abroad.
