  • Citizenship Application, Stay with Expired Passport

My Indian Passport is expiring shortly and I am about to apply for my US Citizenship. Is there any risk or issue in continuing to stay in the US with the expired Indian Passport and applying for US Citizenship? My Permanent Residence card continues to remain valid though. I understand that travel outside US is a problem with the expired passport, but my concern is about just the stay in the US and the application for US Citizenship.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Passport has nothing to do with N-400. It doesn't matter even if its expired.

Your valid Permanent Resident Card, is what qualifies your staying in the USA, not your Passport.
When you apply for your citizenship, N-400, you can then apply for a USA Passport, qualifying you to travel internationally.
