  • Got a request to appear for initial interview sooner than expected, should I worry?

Hello! I live in New York and I know that processing takes a long time here. I had applied for citizenship back in 2013, but it was denied due to the fact that I had spent 9 months on a trip overseas within the 5 years preceding my application. I just became eligible again and I sent in my application in June, got a letter to do fingerprints which I did in July, now I got a letter telling me to come for an Initial Interview in August. What does that mean? Last time I applied, it took 8 months from the date I applied to the interview. How can it take 2 months when it's supposed to take 8? Is a request for initial interview same as the actual interview? Is there something wrong with my case that they need to clear before proceeding? Should I worry? Should I get a lawyer just in case?

They are just more efficient and doing it more quickly now. I applied on April, and next Tuesday I will have my oath ceremony, so the whole process took just 4 months for me (I applied in Dallas, TX)
