  • Current Legal name for N-400

I wonder which one last name I should put into the "Current Legal Name" on N-400 form.

The reason I am confused is:
I am divorced in the US and the court granted me the last name change to my maiden name.
I didn't change my documents to the "new" name to avoid problems with different names on my national passport and US docs as my plan was to apply for the citizenship. Plus my driver's license office told me I need the green card name changed before the state ID. So I am still using my ex-husband's last name on all documents.
Can I put my maiden name into the N-400 form as "Current Legal Name" and my married name as "Other names you have used" or should I ask USCIS for a name change under "Name Change (optional)" in Part 2 of N-400.

My plan was to apply with the married name and ask for a name change but after reading some posts that it's not easy anymore I started hesitating what technique I should use.

    Thanks for any ideas.
