  • Naturalization experience at Mount Laurel NJ

My experience with Mt Laurel NJ office naturalization interview. Mine and my wife's interview was scheduled for Jan 14th at 12.30 pm. We reached there about 20 minutes before time and went through security check. Mind you, it is a small office but there is plenty of free parking on-site. I have been agonizing for the past two months because I had traffic tickets prior to applying but I did not mark that question "yes" in the application (Part 11, Item 19). After reading opinions in different forums, I decided to tell the IIO at the time of the interview, but also made sure to take the certified court documents indicating the fine paid. I also took along the original certified DMV abstract.

My wife was immediately called in and she came out in about 30 minutes. She had passed all the tests , but they told her that they will mail her a decision in two months as they had to a name check.

I was called and I went in and the usual procedure where you stand up and take an oath, etc. The IIO was a nice lady and she started with the civics and tests which I answered correctly. Next she made me read a sentence and write one. At that point I told her that I would make a correction to my application, she said hold on , that she was going to go through the application line by line with me and I could correct the pertinent line when she reaches that point. Well, she somehow missed Item 19 and when the time came to sign the forms, I again told her I would like to change the answer to question 19 part 11. When she heard that I had traffic tickets originally but did not mention them, she said she needed the proof of payment of fines. She took the original certified court dispositions and went through them one by one, asking me whether I was sure it MV violations and nothing else. When I assured her that it was MV violations only with fines less than $500, she said that she also needed the DMV abstract. I gave her the original DMV abstract. She then congratulated me and scheduled for the naturalization ceremony on the same day at 3 pm, and she gave me the oath letter. It was 1.30 at that point. She told me that I could go out and grab a bite to eat but I should be back by 2.50pm. SHe also tole me not get any traffic violations between now and the oath ceremony. I am a proud US citizen now. Hope this narrative will help other anxious people out there.

Congrats, but maybe our application forms are different because on mine, Part 11-question 19 is regarding Military/Weapons training....
I received a speeding ticket 6 years ago. Should I mention it?
    Thanks!
