  • Can I apply for citizenship now?

I came to USA in 2007. Immediately I applied for asylum. I was granted green card in May 2010. I lived in USA from June 2007 to March 2013 continuously. During these years I got my BA from a US college.

Due to my mother's illness I went to Turkey and stayed there for 13 months. I came to back to US in April 2014 and left back to Turkey in August 2014. I lived in Turkey till November 2015 and I'm back in the USA since Nov 2015.

During my time abroad I maintained US bank account and mailing address, filed my taxes and my daughter was born in the USA. Every time I left the states, I left with reentry permit. I had no problem when coming back.

Almost 6 years have passed since I was granted green card and I'm know that one year till green card also counts as my residence period. However, because I left US for more than a year, I'm confused whether I can apply for citizenship now?

if not how much time needs to pass before I can apply for citizenship?

You can use US Citizenship eligibility calculator,
US Citizenship Eligibility Calculator. Wizard for determining your US citizenship eligibility. Also find out the earliest day you will be eligible to apply for US naturalization
