  • Spouse of US citizen

    Hello everyone,
I am the spouse of a US citizen. I am applying for US citizenship now.
I am confused with the N400 application and would appreciate any help on your behalf.
I understand that I need to stay at least 18 months (548 days) out of the three years immediately preceding the date of filing the application. But on the N400 papers I do not see an option to write the information about my stay outside of the USA for the last 3 years. They want me to give info about my stay during the past 5 years. How do I overcome that?
Also, I want to use the early filling date option so how do I indicate that?
    Thanks so much!

      Same Problem

      Hi Natalie,

I am also the spouse of a US citizen and am stuck in a similar situation, so did you find an answer to your question? I do not see an option to write the information about my stay outside of the USA for the last 3 years. They want me to give info about my stay during the past 5 years. What did you write in N-400, last 5 years or last 3 years? Kindly respond.

      Thanks,
      Amar

        Hi Jogi,

Don`t be confused. Even we have the same question from many of our applicants. It`s mistake or forgot to mention in Form N-400 and basically, most of the applicant will be 5 year completion are filing the U.S. Citizenship (mean filing citizenship without family members) so USCIS has failed to spot for 3 years applicants.

        Good Luck!!

        Regards
