  • Help! Turned 18

    Hey guys,

My father applied for his citizenship before I turned 18. I turned 18 in dec 21,2002 and his naturalization certificate is from march 2003. Do I still qualify for the citizenship? What is valid, the date of the application or the date of the certificate?
    Thank you

Since you were already 18 when dad was naturalized, you don't meet the requirements for derivative citizenship. Your remaining option is to apply for Naturalization (N-400) when you have had Green Card status for 4 years and 9 months, or marry a U.S. citizen and apply at 2 years and 9 months from marriage, or enlist in military and whittle your waiting time down to about one year.
