Hello,
I have been a permanent resident since 1998, when I was a child.
I have just recently applied for naturalization, but am now worried that I may not qualify. I previously thought that I did, but I am not sure.
Here are the facts:
I moved abroad in late 2013 and returned early this year. In total, I lived abroad for 27 months, but I made frequent (several times a year) trips back to the U.S. As such, my application does not show periods of days away for more than 6 months at a time - however, my addresses abroad and my employment abroad are clearly listed.
I was present in the U.S. for more than 30 months during the previous 5 years, and I have been residing in my current state for more than 3 months.
Do I still qualify even if I moved abroad for that long? Sure, I was not away from the country for more than 6 months at a time, but in essence, I was living abroad for much longer than that. I did file an N-470 Application to Preserve Residence for Naturalization Purposes before I moved abroad; my application fee was processed but I never received a response as to whether it was approved or denied
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
