  • N 400 processing experience (California)

    Dear All,

I filed N400 in March'2016 and was received on March 3, 2016. Finger printing was done on Mar 30th. But there after there is no letter I received for further processing for interview.
Is it normal for California applicants to take this long ? Online status does not even reflect that finger printing is done. It just says that On March 3, 2016, they received my Form N-400, Application for Naturalization.

If anybody has applied recently, please share your experience.

    Thanks,
    Ashutosh

    Dear Ashutosh,

I have a student (near Los Angeles, Ca) who applied in May 2015, completed his biometrics in June, then heard nothing for 5 months.
I finally called the Naturalization Department for him, and was told that I could not inquire until it had been a full 6 months passed.
I called again in November of 2015, and they said that they would "track" his application.

His biometrics was acknowledged, and we were just told that they had too many applicants. It was taking forever for no good reason personally other than they had too many people apply.
November passed, December passed....come January 2016, I called again. They gave me the same answer.
FINALLY in march 2016 this student received his interview date for late April 2016. He passed and took the oath in late May 2016.

You have been waiting a long time, but only four months.
Call in to check on your application and whether or not they have your biometrics information in a couple of months.

You can call now, just to make sure. If it is too early, they will tell you when to call them back.

    Good Luck.

      Filed and got no reply

      New Jersey Resident (Elizabeth)
      Documents sent: 6/17/16
      Received: 6/24/16
      Cashier's Check cashed: 6/29/16
      Got no response from USCIS.

Does anyone know how long the processing time is?
Does voting near at hand has any effect on processing time. I would like to be able to vote.

We're in Phoenix and it took 6 months. We submitted the initial application Jan. 8 of this year. Our citizenship exam/interview is July 5th.

I further started searching for the info,

          1. USCIS site says, it takes average 6 months once they receive the application.

          2. Also, you can check processing time at,

But I looked at it in last month 3 times, it stays the same for the field office where I applied. You can check for you field office.

I've been waiting for 6 months after fp.
              Shall we sue them?

You can't sue a government agency. Try a "Writ of Mandamus."
