  • Green Card Expires in a Month! No Interview yet for Citizenship

My Green Card Expires in a month September 15th, 2016. I applied for Citizenship and filled out N400 on May. Biometric was done on June 9th and still haven't heard about the interview. What's should i do as I didn't apply for citizenship prior to 6 month expiration of Green card. I only applied about 4 month before the expiration date. Any past experience will help. Thanks!

you still may file Form N-400, Application for Naturalization with an expired or expiring green card. However, USCIS encourages you to maintain a valid green card at all times just to be safe in case you are applying for a new job, traveling abroad, etc; so you can have an active card. but in any other circumstance by carry an expire green card is an offense is just for your safe and but it's not strictly required.

The green card process takes 3 months or more to complete. it might be 6 months depending on the cases ahead of you, but maybe by then, you might be in your interview process and I have seen many N-400 applicants, that the IO not even question expire GC or ask question about that matter.

Botton line, At the end of the Citizenship process, when you will do the oath, they will Through you card on a box and you will no longer have a validation because you will be a US Citizen and ready to get your US passport. So if you apply for I-90 it will be a waste of money and extra expensive for a card that you will never be used.

    pls read below.

Be cautious of the consequences from an expired green card. An expired card can affect everyday life decisions and can become expensive.

        Green Card expired

It's okay to have a expired green card. Just make sure you apply for N400 before the green card expires. That's how mine was and my I got my citizenship with no problem. Good luck
