  • N400 multiple applications with different credit cards

I send in multiple applications (in 2 different envelopes but in the same fedex envelope) last week. I included separate g-1450 with each application, but used 2 different credit cards (1 per application). Haven't got any updates yet and my credit cards haven't been charged. Looks like this is not correct, I should have used the same credit card on both the g-1450s? Anyone who has experience with this, please comment.

It may be too early to reach any conclusions, as posting funds can take a few week.

Thanks Ray B. I searched the forum but couldn't find any thread where someone was in the same bucket as me. Guess I have no option but to wait till they either charge my cards and continue processing or reject my application and send it back. Do you know how much time it takes to hear back if they do decide to reject the application?

Been over 2 weeks and no update from USCIS. They haven't charged my credit card either. Looking at online trackers, many people who applied after me to the same service center have received NOA already. What are my options? Can I cancel my application (call credit card company and ask them not to clear the charge if it comes in future) and send in one more application this week?

If you cancel your credit card payment to USCIS, you will be making a big mistake. They will consider your procedure to have started and will turn the unpaid fee bill to Treasury Department for collection activity. It happened to me when USCIS failed to cash my check for N-400 a few years back, after I sent a second N-400 package and check. Interest and collection charges were added for the first check that I had "stop payment" on.

Thanks rayb. I called the USCIS number today and spoke to 2nd level (immigration officer). He said he doesn't see my application in the system yet (accepted or rejected). Asked me to wait for another 2 weeks and if I don't hear back from USCIS, send in a second application and put a stop payment on the first one. Interesting that he suggested this option, even though your experience would suggest not to do that. So you had to pay the first one as well?

                My situation was as follows:

After waiting about 6 weeks without the check being cashed, the person I had submitted the package for asked me to send a second package and second check, and to stop payment on the first check. About two weeks after I stopped payment, USCIS found the first package and tried to cash the first check. When the check wouldn't be honored (because I stopped payment), I was told to pay since work had already started on the first package (and also the second package). When I didn't reimhurse USCIS for the first check, it was turned over to the Treasury Department for collection. When I got a threat that the nonpayment would be reported to a credit agency, I just paid the fee, plus penalty and interest, about $730 total.

I got religion from that experience and would not stop payment on a check to USCIS in the future.

If you are filing for N-400 for yourself, NEVER send multiple applications unless you meant you sent applications for yourself and someone else, say your permanent resident wife or permanent resident family member? Sending in multiple applications for 1 person/applicant will cause delays and just confuse USCIS! Now, if you sent applications for yourself and someone else, and you have not yet seen your credit cards charged, don't fret - you don't get receipt notices that quickly. That can take several weeks. If you changed address since you filed, make sure you submitted change of address form so you continue to receive USCIS notices and correspondence.

I see, hopefully the mail room figures that out, and they should. I normally send packets per each applicant separately but it should process soon, if all goes as it should.

Just wanted to provide an update - I sent an e-mail to the lockbox e-mail address on 28th Sep requesting them to check if my package was misplaced. On 29th Sep morning, both my credit cards were charged. I got the NOAs today in the mail, they used the original delivery date (12th Sep) as priority date.

Thanks Ray B and Maguila for your help.
