  • Suggestions? 21 years waiting.

Hello there everyone. Just looking to get ideas or suggestions for helping my parents.

My parents and older brother came to America from Mexico about 21 years ago (my brother turned 2 on the way in actually) on a two month Vacation Visa, after about a week they decided to apply for citizenship. Processing started, and they received lots of documents and such. However, every time they go online to check how its going its always sitting at the same location for processing. We've been living with family members this whole time since they're allowed to be however its been a really long time and tensions get high sometimes. My brother was lucky enough to become part of the DREAM act so him and I have been helping support the family while going to school and we're slowly saving up what we think is the cost of a lawyer to try and speed things up.

My question is this: is there anything we can do to speed the process up before contacting a lawyer? 21 years and counting is extremely long and I heard other families or posts online say it didn't take nearly as long.

Well one cannot simply arrive on a visitor (vacation) visa and decide to apply for citizenship. They would need to first have applied for a green-card and fulfilled those obligations first. Have they applied and obtained green-cards through sponsorship? What was the dynamic in them being eligible to apply for citizenship.

Please provide all of the pertinent information for a proper response. As your post currently stands they are not even eligible for citizenship or naturalization at this point which is why you have had no progression in the process.
