My problem might be a little unique: my parents came to the US in 2002, and I was 3 years old at the time. They applied for a green card like everyone else does, but the uniqueness is that we got approved for a green card just last year, in June of 2015. Those 13 years, my and my family's status was listed as Asylum. I am aware of the fact that the general process for naturalization is as follows: 1 year of Asylum, and then 5 years of Permanent Residency status, in which your Asylum can constitute for 1 of the 5 years of Permanent Resident status. Can this rule apply for me and my family, meaning can my 13 years as an Asylee cover the years needed for Permanent Residency and can I directly apply for naturalization? Thank you. I will try to contact USCIS as well.
