My parents are in their mid 70's and my mother got her citizenship last year after spending the required amount of time (5 years) in the US on her green card. My dad however was not able to spend the same amount of time as he has some medical issues which required him to see his doctors in his home country. He is currently short some 200 days from the 900 days (5 years) requirement. He is wondering if he can just apply for citizenship given that his wife has it, his kids are all citizens for several years etc. A friend of his also claims to have filed for citizenship and received it without having had to spend the required 5 years/900 days in the country.
Does anyone have any experience in this matter? Any issues with him applying for citizenship?
