Hi, I have been a green card holder since 1997.
Got married to a US citizen in 93 or 94, marriage lasted 4 or 5 years, got divorced.
Yes! It was of course absolutely legit, we were young, first marriage for both, things got out of hand...I blame her, she blames me etc...lol...anyway that's a whole different forum.
Today I'm 47 and am about to get my third green card, second renewal, and I was wondering if I should apply for a citizenship?
I probably qualify, have exactly zero criminal history, always pay my taxes, don't owe anyone anything.
Here's the thing though; while we were married I just don't remember if we filed jointly on our taxes or not. Again, young and stupid, didn't know anything. I'm pretty sure we did but I can't be 100% positive.
I'm wondering in case we didn't, if that could mess things up?
Currently don't have a lawyer and never did when I got the green card. Just filled out the forms on our own and filed them.
Do the experts here think the taxes might be a reason for being rejected?
In my recollection that's about the only thing I can think of that might mess things up.
Thanks all.....great forum by the way
