  • Are Kids Allowed inside Biometric Facilities?

My wife and I are scheduled for Finger Printing on January 26 at Indianapolis, Indiana USCIS. Can we bring our two kids with us inside the facility?

I am aware of that Warning before I posted the question. I am just getting some actual experience with those who were already done with their biometrics, if they saw somebody brought kids inside the facility, or those who actually brought kids with them. I read from other site's forum that somebody brought their kids with them at the biometric facility, but the date of the posting was 2011.

I'd avoid taking kids inside federal facilities. Get a babysitter or a known friend to take care of the kids for an hour or two.

Had a similar problem a couple of months ago, and could not leave the ~1yr. old kid at daycare, since the appointment was early in the morning and a 3hr. drive away, in otherwords before the daycare opened for the day. So took the kid along, no problem. However, as has been advised if you can avoid it, better avoid it. The biometrics facility is just like any other federal facility (for e.g., no food/drinks allowed, metal detector scanning, silence to be maintained, etc. ). So, if you can avoid taking your kids there, you would be better off. But it is not like kids are not allowed inside. But it might be a hassle looking after them inside, especially if you have more than one kid.

Thanks for the info. Your situation before is like a blue print for me. It's almost the same situation. My wife and I are going to Indianapolis, INDIANA which is more than 2 hours drive from ILLINOIS. Our appointment is 9AM (Indiana time) which is 8AM Illinois time. Most probably, we are going to leave at 4:30AM so that we will have enough buffer time. We don't know if there's a daycare that opens at 4:30AM. As of now, I am asking some help from our friends and relatives and hoping they can take a time off from their work. If there's none, we will be forced to bring our kids with us and hoping that the officers there at INDIANA are considerate enough to understand our situation. Thanks again.

Good luck. Anway they call you and your wife one after the other. So there will be at-least one of you at all times to look after the kids. Folks at the facility are quite understanding.

Sairo, Have you already had your interview? Can you share your experience?
All, I am planning to go to the interview just by myself with my 5y old son, It is acceptable to have my son next to me all the time since nobody else will take care of him at any time?
                Thanks
