    hello..
I am a US citizen who resides in egypt most of my life. i got married to a non US citizen and we have a child that was born in Egypt. we arrived at the USA over a year ago where my child was a year and a half of age and we applied for her certificate of neutralization. The USCIS required some documents regarding my proof of citizenship and my wife's status, our marriage certificate and our daughter's birth certificate and passport. i sent all the required documents and then waited for 5 months befor they replied saying that the documents i sent were incomplete and requested the same documents i've already sent again. so i did send the same documents again and waited for another 3 months, finally they replied asking for the same documents again but with addition of a proof of paternity in the form of a ' paternity test ' which is expensive. when i searched on their site i found that a paternity test is required only when there isn't enough documents to prove our relationship. i already sent her Birth certificate issued by the Egyptian government and her official Egyptian passport with me stated as the father. i don't get it !!!

Why not just get a US passport and forget this certificate thing?

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

Why didn't you apply for a Consular Report of Birth Abroad of a Citizen of the United States of America while living in Egypt?

A DNA test, administered by an approved lab in the U.S., will cost you between $600 and $700. You are being asked to complete such a test because the paternity of your child is not absolutely credible from the documents you have provided. This is a common request of USCIS and of many U.S. consular posts worldwide. If you want the child to get a passport, and be able to come and go between countries, this is something you have to do.

          Hello,

It is very common for the UScis to require a CRBA for this kind of scenario. You will need to purchase an AABB accredited Immigration DNA test at https://www.paternityusa.com/immigration-dna-testing/. You can al all them at (800)349-8515. I just finished using PaternityUSA, and it was relatively very inexpensive, and easy too.

          GOOD LUCK!!
