  • Naturalization of children

I am scheduled for my naturalization interview in a few weeks. I have a 14 year old child whose details was included in my N400 application - she was born outside the USA. Once I am a naturalized citizen, what must I do to get her a SS number and a passport?

    Thank you.

Why doesn't she already have a social security card?

She lives with you here in the United States, right? You have legal custody of her? She has a green card?

Yes she lives with me and has a greencard but not a SS. She only has ITIN nr used for tax purposes.

You can get her a social security card right away, she's obviously not "NR"

She will derive citizenship when you naturalize, see https://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/H...-Chapter4.html

          Thank you.

I saw someone post on another forum that she had to wait till 18 then apply for citizenship and that was very confusing.

          Thanks again.

If you become a citizen before she turns 18, she will automatically (and involuntarily) become a US citizen. If not, she will have to apply on her own after she turns 18, once she meets the 5-year rule.

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
