  • Soft Reminder for N400 Interview - Take your Tax Return Transcript with You

I just had my interview finished and got Congratulations result. I almost need to go back again because the IO was asking for Tax Return transcript. Thanks god, I did have my transcript with me. Tax Return file does not work.
You can go IRS web site to print out your Tax Return Transcript in 5 years. Just create an account and they are there.

Provides information about how to access your transcripts/tax records online or by mail.

Good advice!! My husband only took his tax returns from the last 2 years - his actual copies - not the IRS copies. We had to later provide proof that he has been filing taxes and paid.

Tax returns transcripts and account transcripts are available on the IRS site. You just have to create and account.

I would definitely print out the last 5 years and take it with you on your interview to avoid delays.

No, I got PR through my father but I believe they will ask marriage certificate if you are married regardless you got your PR through marriage or not. IO asked mine.

I believe IOs have been instructed to ask IRS transcript and/or account record for 5 years to proof you don't owe any taxes. I did ask IO why they need to collect the transcript and he said "You have no idea how many came here and owe taxes that they have to send them back to IRS.

IO's question to me is Have you ever got refund from IRS in past 5 years, I did get refund once but I have to pay due when I filed my return. He asked and checked very carefully and make sure I don't owe any....
Just would like to give a heads up what they are looking for and you need to prepare for.
