  • We lost the green card (have kids at home), can we still apply for citizenship?

My lawyer tells me that we have get replacement green card since we have lost my wife's green card before we apply for naturalization but I see some reports they seem to entertain naturalization application even though rules say it requires valid green card. Has anyone seen N400 approved without active greencard?

This was the replacement green card (2nd) that we lost, we still have the original with us which was valid for 2 years (it is obviosly expired).

The lost green card is NOT stolen. It was at home and we believe kids of stashed it somewhere that we can't find.

    Thanks!

The appropriate thing to do would be to apply for a replacement green card

That said, naturalization is usually granted to applicants who have lost their green card, even if they haven't applied for a replacement
