  • Travel out of USA after Biometrics and before interview

    Hi,

I completed fingerprint about 5 month ago and now I am waiting for the interview and my application is still in process. I wanted to go for a vacation in Bahamas for like 5 days. Do you think is it a wise decision to leave USA before the interview even for few days?
There is really no problem in my application and I have been in the states for almost all of last 5 years! Do you think they may want to do background check again if I tell the interviewer I left states for few days during the interview. I don't want to wait for another year and a new background check

I would greatly appreciate your feedback

    Thanks

Unless you have advanced parole, leaving would be unwise. You are usually considered to be abandoning your AOS application if you leave before you're issued a green card or advanced parole.

Or unless you have some other valid status for re-entry into the USA, you're likely to end up with some trouble. If you're simply an AOS applicant, you'd need AP to leave and come back safely.

I hold US Green card , that is why I could apply for citizenship after 5 years. So I don't have any problem for re-entry. My only issue is weather going out of USA can cause issues during my citizenship interview and more background checks?

Yes you can travel, just make sure it's not for an extended period of time.

Ah, excuse me I didn't pay attention to the thread we were in.

Yes travelling is perfectly fine with your green card in place, you have full rights to leave and enter whenever you want. For the amount of time you want to go for you will be fine, go and have a nice vacation!
