    Hi Guys,
i'm gonna apply for citizenship this month, but i didn't register in selective service when i first came to US ( i was 23 years old).
i know that they may deny my application if i don't provide selective service number
did any one have the same problem ? and how did you beat it ?

How old are you now? Are you applying under the 3-year or 5-year rule? What status were you when you were in the US?

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.

So you became a permanent resident 5 years ago when you were 23. Are you sure you weren't automatically registered for Selective Service as part of your immigration process, since you immigrated during the age range when you needed to register? I believe that both the immigrant visa application and the Adjustment of Status form contain a section where you agree to allow them to register you (though this doesn't necessarily mean they actually registered you). Contact the Selective Service and check.

If you didn't register, you would have to wait until you are age 31 to apply for naturalization.

In accordance with U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Service (USCIS) Policy Manual - Volume 12 - Part D - Chapter 7, applicants for naturalization who are over age 31 are eligible for naturalization even if they knowingly and willfully failed to register. This is because the applicant's failure to register would be outside of the statutory period during which the applicant must show that he is of good moral character and disposed to the good order and happiness of the United States. Thus a man's failure to register with Selective Service does not make him ineligible for naturalization because he is age 31 or older. Also, since an immigrant who is age 31 or older remains eligible for naturalization even if he knowingly and willfully failed to register, he should not be asked to get a "Status Information Letter" from Selective Service.
