  • Trip outside of The U.S. For longer Than 6 months.

    Hi Everyone,

If an applicant for citizenship leaves the U.S. for more than 6 months, what should they do in order to get their citizenship?

She did not abandon her residence and can prove it. They had to go to another country for 10 months because of her husband's job.

Also, half of the 10 month trip is part of the 5 year consideration. The other half is after the 5 years. This is confusing for me.

I told her that I was a teacher, so I could not give her legal advice.

It is too late for her to see a lawyer because her citizenship appointment is next week, and she first showed me her application yesterday.
Should she have applied with such a long trip on her record, or should she have waited until the trip was gone from the 5 year consideration?

    Thank you!
