apply for naturalization and gc about to exp

Hi - wondering if anyone can share their experience if they are in the process of applying for citizenship and their green card is about to expire.
I had my interview in August and passed the test but was told they could not make a decision at the time. My green card is about to expire in 3 months and have not received any updates from USCIS. I applied for naturalization 6+ months before expiration. Any recommendations if I should apply to renew gc (its a lot of $)? If i request to for info pass, does any one know if they will grant gc extension before card is expired? Thanks

Go to an InfoPass appointment to get an I-551 stamp. They should give you one since you have a pending N-400. You do not need to file I-90 to replace your green card.

Is there a time frame before an I-551 stamp request be made? example, 1 month before expiration or anytime?
