File tax single since we haven't divorced . I need helps from you guys for US citizen

I got my 2 years greencard on 02/10/2014 and then I got 10 years greencard 3 years after that which is on 02/14/2017. My husband is American, US citizen born here in MN. After living together at the same address for 3 years from 2014-2017 , we have lived separately and we did file tax single after I got my 10 years card . . We haven't filed for divorce yet but we are kinda separated . I don't know if i can still apply for US citizen based on 3 years married rules. Or Should I divorce with him and wait for 2 more years to apply for US citizen based on 5 years rule ? I really don't know what to do. I think the tax things **** up my application since we both put SINGLE in the form . I'm currently a full time student and don't work so last year i didnt file for tax. He and me rarely talk to each other since we are both busy. I really need help from you guys. Please help me

You should amend your tax returns to married filing separately. You are not single or legally separated. It sounds like you are informally separated and not living in marital union. Thus, you do not qualify for naturalization through marriage to a US citizen.
