Nowhere can I find information to help me. I have finished most of the required process to become naturalized as a citizen. My oath ceremony is next week, the 21st of June. I am taking part in a student trip out of the country (to England and Scotland) on July 11. I am arranging to work with an expedited passport company online to recieve my passport, however there are some major conflicts.
When applying for citizenship my family decided that we would change our last name to take my grandfather's and reject my (divorced) father's name. When I receive my Naturalization Certificate, will that be enough to prove to this passport service I am who I say I am? It will have my new name, but that will not match the name on my old Texas ID card which will still have my prevous last name on it. (I will not have time to apply for a new ID in this time) Will that no longer be useable as proof of identity when applying for the emergency passport?
Also, they require proof that I will be traveling soon, and the Professor who has the group's tickets bought them months ago, (whilst I still had my original last name) can I still show them those tickets? I have no idea what other kind of proof I can show them.
Surely I cannot be the only person in the history of the U.S. wrapped up in this same scenario. What about newlyweds going on a honeymoon? certainly their name would change and they would leave the country in a similar fashion? (It seems like a similar situation to me) But I think that it is incredibly stupid of them to take your Green Card away when you go to the oath ceremony. If i could keep it until I had my new passport, I would not have this problem. augh.
But help would aid me so very much, and would be greatly appreciated as no site, official government or otherwise has been able to offer me such information.
