  • Question: Naturalization after divorce

I am married for 19 years and have a Green Card since 2001. I am about to apply for citizenship but now I am facing a divorce. Will the divorce keep me from becoming a citizen? According to the government website I should be eligible.
    Thanks for any answers.

as long as you are able to provide a divorce decree if requested you should be fine
This is strictly an opinion and should not be misconstrued as legal advice. The use of this information is strictly at your own risk.

You are not applying for citizenship based on marriage to a US citizen. Bring a certified copy of your divorce decree to your interview. Provide it if asked.
