  • What documents are needed for the N400 interview?

    Hi All,
After a long wait, I finally got my interview letter. I filed in March 2017 and my interview in scheduled for December 2018. I filed based on 5 year rule and remarried. Can someone please tell me what documents should I take with me to the interview? Thank you in advance for taking the time to answer my question.

Make sure you have your tax info (the officer I interviewed with reviewed every report since I became a resident). If you have had traffic tickets, make sure you have a receipt that shows you took care of it. In addition, you need your green card, passport and driver license. Be ready to speak about any recent trips (purpose, duration, destination, dates). If you have a business make sure to take paperwork that shows you filed business taxes as well.

We took our passports, green cards, driver's license, tax returns for the past 5 years, and marriage certificate when we attended our Interview in October 2018. However, the Officer did not ask us for any of these documents. Instead, he asked many questions from our original N-400 application (e.g., travel dates and countries visited, etc.). Luckily, we reviewed our application prior to attending the Interview and so we were able to answer everything.

Hi, I have a question. After the interview, did the officer gave you a date for your oath ceremony? I passed my test and they give me a sheet saying "a decision cannot yet be made". It's been 2 moths and I have not heard anything at all.

        Thank you very much!

In my case, the Officer said "Congratulations, I'm going to recommend your application for approval. I'm going to try and schedule you and your wife for the Oath ceremony to be held later this month in Worcester, MA, but I won't guarantee".

Just to put things in perspective, below is my timeline (Lawrence, MA field office):

          N-400 application sent: September 12, 2017
Biometric notification received: September 20, 2017
Biometric scheduled for: October 5, 2017
Interview notification sent: August 28, 2018
Interview scheduled for: October 1, 2018
Oath ceremony notification sent: October 9, 2018 (I received my oath notification letter 2 days after my wife received hers.)
Oath ceremony (to be held in Lowell, MA): December 5, 2018 (cancelled in remembrance of former Pres. George H. W. Bush)

Good luck and hope you hear something positive soon.

Yea, a little over a year. This wasn't the case for some who filed in late 2016 - early 2017 where filing to Oath ceremony took about 4-5 months.

Dec-Jan isn't the best time for updates from USCIS, due to the holiday season, but I hope you hear something soon.

Also, don't go by the USCIS Case Status website. I received updates by mail faster than it reflected on the website!
