  • Applying for US Citizenship

    Dear All,

We live in Columbus, OH. My wife has met all the requirements to apply for US citizenship. Her green card expires on 12/07/19 and application is ready for submission. Our application will be processed at Chicago. The processing time might be more than 10 months. If we have to travel to India after December 2019 and still no decision by USCIS about citizenship application:

    1. Could we go to USCIS Columbus office and apply for I-551 stamp (temporary evidence of the individual's status as a permanent resident)?
    2. What documents (purpose of travel etc.) are required to receive I-551 stamp?
    3. Is getting I-551 stamp routine?
    4. What is the current processing time for citizenship application?
    5. Is it necessary to apply for green card renewal along with citizenship application?

Feel free to provide your comments and suggestions. Thanks for your help. With regards, USA1900.
