  • Filling out N 400 form

I am filling N 400 form and for evidence it asked me to attach permanent resident card and marriage certificate. On the next page, it is asking me to attach any "additional evidence you want to provide". My question is what documents should I attach?

I am filing this application after 5 years of permanent residency as a couple, no kids, there are no special situations applicable to our case. The only thing comes to my mind is tax documents. Should I attach them, if yes then what? the whole document or tax transcripts from IRS? Or we usually bring the tax documents later during interview.

My other question is that I have missed filing for one year of local tax 3 years ago, other than that everything is complete. Would that be an issue?

    Thanks in advance for answering.

I also attached my most recent electric bill as proof of residence.

I don't recall attaching any tax returns with the original N-400 application. However, I did take tax transcripts of the past 4 years with me to the Interview, which the Officer didn't ask for.

Regarding your missed filing for state taxes, could you send an amended state tax return with a penalty to rectify things? If it were me, I'd take care of that before attempting to file the N-400. The concern is, when they do your background check, there's a possibility that this issue could come up and delay your case. Why complicate things? Make it easy on them to approve your application.

      Thanks for responding.

I paid all federal and state taxes. It was local city taxes which I was talking about for one year. You are correct, why take chances. I contacted the city and will file a return with them before submitting N-400.

      thank you again!
