I got my Green Card in early 2002 through employment and will be eligible to apply for citizenship next month. I need some clarity on the question where they ask to mention the address where I have lived for the past 5 years. Here is my situation - please help:
1. When I got my GC at that time I was a consultant and so had to travel all the time. I was based out of NJ but work was mainly out of MA, VA, IL, etc.. My company used to pay for my housing at hotels/corpoate apartments in these different states so I didnot keep my own apartment - rather moved my stuff to storage. For the plastic Green card - I had given a friend's address in NJ - the card arrived there. For 2 years after I got the card - I had hardly come back to NJ - but was in different states in hotels/corporate apartments - and had left my friend's address on the INS file (didnot put in a AR-11). After that in 2004 I got my own place in GA and put in an address change. I moved again in 2005 to NJ and again I filed an address change immediately.
So basically for about 2.5 years after getting the GC the INS had on my file an address which didnot belong to me but was a friend's address where I never lived. After that have changed address twice and given the AR-11 properly.
So in the N-400 form where they ask where I have lived in the past five years what should I put for the first 2.5 years?
Should I write the friend's address OR should I write the different addresses (about 6 different hotels/corporate-apartments in 3 different) where I was actually?
I am very scared since if I leave my friend's address I am worried INS will question if you ever stayed there? If I put in all these hotels/corporate apartments - it will come that I didnot give INS the correct addresses for all these years.
Please help - what should I do?
