  • I did not register with selective service

I came to the U.S. when I was 24 as a permanent resident but was unaware that I had to register with Selective Service. I am now 29 and trying to obtain my citizenship, I have already passed the civics test but I have been requested to obtain some kind of letter from the Selective Service, what are the chances my application will be approved? How do I go about to obtain the letter?

There is such thing as a waiver for this requirement, but I recommend you consult an attorney.

        Need help

        Hello,
I see you are talking about selective service. Here is my case..I have my interview next month. so, please help.

        I came to US in H1 visa before I turned 24 years(in 1998).
Now I got citizenship interview coming up next month. What do i regarding my selective service?
I noticed a website where you can give you last name, other details and check if you are registered. I checked and it says I am not registered.

Does this mean I have chances of not being approved? Please help.

        Dan

What is that mean to register selective service? Is this a new requirement? Does this effect when I apply for citizen on marriage base?

You will not be approved for citizenship if you failed to register for the selective service and were required to do so. read more here: https://www.immihelp.com/register-fo...ervice-in-usa/

It is not a new requirement. Again, check https://www.immihelp.com/register-fo...ervice-in-usa/ and it affects ANY kind of application for citizenship, whether permanent residency was gained through employment or family relationship.

                Hi

Hi, Thanks. So, I was here before 26 years in a H1-B visa. So, I think from their requirements I don't have to register. I don't have to do anything from now till my interview.

Please reply back that my understanding is correct.
                Thanks Again.

Non-immigrants (such as you on H1B) do not need to register, for as long as you never lost your H1B status (for more than 30 days) before your 26th birthday.
