  • Eligibility question

I acquired my green card in April 2000. However, my husband unexpectedly died in November 2000 and I had to fly home to take of financial and family matters. During this period I was out of the U.S. for a period of 8 months. Fortunately, I did get a white passport (re-entry permit?) covering the extent of my trip. I returned to the U.S. in May 2001 and have been residing here ever since.

How will this affect my eligibility and application for citizenship?

Plus, I have a sons, who is over 21, unmarried. When I receive my citizenship, can he apply for immigration as my son?

    Thank you!

Even with the eight month ansence, from my calculations, you already hav ethe residency required for citizenship. Yes, you cna file for your sons....you could and should have when you got your green card.....you would ahve shaved off a considerable amount of time off the waiting already.

      Hey,

I did file for them immediately after filing for my green card. I was wondering if the process would be expedited, or if I should file again once I receive my citizenship.

      Thank you!

No, you dont file again. You send a copy of your nat certificate with all the necessary info about his case to USCIS, thats all.
