  • Should I travel before taking The Oath

I passed the Interview for naturalization and I am waiting for a letter with information about the oath ceremony. I have to travel outside the USA (abroad) since one of my parents is sick and I have to take care of him for about two or three months . Can I request the date of the oath ceremony to be postponed with three months considering the fact that I don’t know yet the exact oath ceremony date? Would that hide any risks? I live in California.

Yes, you can. I am not sure who to contact though. One of my friends went through the interview process and told the officer that they can't take the oath till Jan since they are going to India. The officer told them to inform USCIS once they return from India so that they can schedule oath ceremony.
